EVAPORATIVE COOLING
An evaporate cooler is based on one of the oldest concepts in keeping things cool. It is works on the principal of the famous Coolgardie safe – a cool cloth material draped over a meat safe, the air passing through the materials gives off its heat and the cool air falls down over the internals of the meat safe.
The modern day version uses the same simple principles of evaporation, hot and dry outside air is pumped through water-soaked pads. As the air blows through the pads, the water is evaporated and the heat in the air is absorbed, which lowers the air temperature. A fan then pushes the cool air through the ducting system.Unlike refrigerated air conditioning, the cool air this system generates won’t
dry out the skin, nose or eyes.
It is important to remember with this system that cooled air inside the building is not recirculated, so a door or window must be left open for this air to escape, providing the whole building with a complete change in air at least every two minutes.
